Minding my own business…

All I wanted to do was hang my (very heavy) mirror in my bedroom.  I innocently google’d how to do so in the easiest manner possible.  I found this helpful site and I am reading along when there it is…

“Hanging the mirror is easy…the two “lips” will interlock like two kids with braces (smack!!)”

Jerks.  Here I was feeling semi-ok with about my impending bracing and they have to mention my biggest social fear (the effects of the braces on my love life, or lack there of). I have been doing so much better on not freaking out, obsessing yes but not freaking out, and they have to mock me in my picture hanging endeavors.

Of course the paranoia set in so I was back to google. Search criteria: Braces + kissing + stuck + myth (threw in the word myth to get to the bottom of it…)

Here’s what I, reassuringly, came up with.  From http://www.braces.org/:

“If two people with braces kiss, can their braces become locked together?
With today’s smaller sleeker braces it is extremely difficult – almost impossible – to lock braces while kissing.  Also, braces are not magnetic, which means any “attraction” felt is on the part of the wearers, so pucker up!”

Magneto

So there you have it I can kiss whomever I want so long as it’s not Magneto. But I don’t want to kiss him anyway.

Also listed on that page were these other helpful questions that I hadn’t even thought of but immidiatly became worried about after reading them.

Will my braces set off the metal detectors in the airport?
You are cleared for takeoff – the lightweight materials used in braces will not affect metal detectors.

[god, first the underwire of my bra now the braces…maybe they won’t set them off alone but what if there is a combination…oh dear.]

Can braces rust? No. Today’s braces are made of new stronger materials, like titanium alloy, and will not rust.

[Tetanus shot is up to date. No worries even if they do rust]

Will braces increase my chance of being struck by lightening?
No. With or without braces the chances of a lightening strike remain the same which, in the U.S. in any one year, according to nationalgeorgraphic.com, is one is 700,000.

[I am still avoiding the lightening storms…just in case. My luck isn’t so great]

Will my braces attract unwarranted attention from fish?Fish with Braces
Scuba aficionados take heart:  there is no need to cancel your next dive.  The small brackets used in today’s braces, especially ceramic or tooth-colored brackets, will not attract attention from unsavory fish or sea life.

[Seriously?!  I didn’t think it was possible but someone is crazier and more neurotic than me. Who thought of that.  I guess I will have to stick to watching fishing on TV…or not, just in case.]
